10/10 Hot Pants, 18 month review

These are excellent for providing durable static insulation. They are essentially a puffy layer fused with a durable windshell. They effectively block wind and moderate rain. I have gotten fairly soaked (by rain) in them and was still warm but have never gotten them as wet as you would if fording a stream. They layer easily over hiking or work pants and do not significantly restrict mobility. Basically a jacket for your legs. The built in belt makes them very adjustable. I've changed pant sizes while owning them and haven't needed to buy a new pair. Side zippers mean you don't have to take everything out of your other pockets. They are excellent for throwing on when you get back to camp or for extended workdays with start/stop activity in the cold. Where they have really shined is when I have spent entire nights static working on telescopes while exposed to mountaintop wind, it felt like my legs were still indoors. They stand up to moderate construction work very well but are not exactly ultralight. They pack down to a manageable size but would probably offend and ultralight snob. If you need to do manual labor or go off trail in them these are your puffy pants owing to their durability. If you need to count every ounce I'd look elsewhere.

Because the pants are designed to be worn with boots they are a little long for being worn with low running shoes like Altras. Not a major problem as you can cuff them but possibly an annoyance if you favor lighter weight footwear. I agree with an earlier reviewer that optional suspenders would be nice (the pants already have mounts for attaching to one). I wish that these came in women's sizes so that my girlfriend would go winter camping with me.

Well made and very warm

Should last many seasons. Very versatile. Really the only insulated pant you need. It's suitable for everting I can think of. Love the stuff sack. Wasn't expecting that. And it's a generous size so you can roll them and not just cram them in.
