Paul Clark

WHITEWATER PADDLE BOARDER

I'm Paul Clark SUPPAUL, the “duffle bag paddle boarder.” Raised in the rain shadow of the Sierras I learned early that my passion is outdoors. After graduating from college with a degree in Philosophy, I realized my pursuit for truth would be a lifetime endeavor sought mostly in wilderness environments. Hiking, paddling, climbing and back-country skiing were some of my earliest interests. Those lead to my working in the outdoor industry as a sea kayak guide, ski patroller, and avalanche rescue dog handler. Self-propelled travel has been my canvas for self-expression.

I have thru-hiked the 2600-mile Pacific Crest Trail in a relatively fast 90 days. I lived in a snow cave 83 days in the mountains of California one winter during the height of my ski bum days, followed by six months in tent on the shore of the Inside Passsage working for Outward Bound. I have paddled the 1000-mile length of Baja's coast along the Sea of Cortez, twice, both times solo.

What I call adventure paddle boarding has been my most recent obsession. I run rivers on SUP boards. Whereas I used to cry if I didn't get 100 days a year on snow, now I get over 200 days paddling whitewater, hosting river SUP clinics, and traveling internationally to discover more wild places. Along the way I document the experiences as the media house for the paddle board company I work for. I do believe in the adage that the journey is the true destination. And I am always happy to move BEYOND.
