Allta Polar L8 Parka

I was looking for warm outerwear to wear during my Astrophotography Imaging Sessions. These last 4-6 hours. Winter Skies are the most amenable to this hobby. I ordered a size Large, as it was the only size available in my color choice. I normally wear size XL but the ordering instructions indicated that this parka is normally larger than the size indicated. When it arrived I was happy to find that it fits perfectly.
Outside in winter weather the parka performed admirably. Up until now I have only worn Columbia Parkas but the Beyond Clothing Parka kept me much warmer than I had imagined. Thusfar I have only had one opportunity to use the parka for it's intended purpose, but I never once felt the chill in the 15 degree temp and 20 mph winds.

Very warm, lots of smart features. Zipper goes up and to the right to avoid pressure on the face, pockets jn and outside, and very warm hood. Strong winds seem to penetrate the outer layer more than expected, so know the limits when in windy conditions.

Do quite a bit of onshore fishing here in Michigan all winter long. I used the parka last season a couple times but more this winter, so far. I tried many other lines of Parkas and so far this parka has outperformed all others. It is oversized but great for layering. Light weight and warm, makes being outside for extended periods of time (8+ Hours) comfortable. So far the lowest temp that I have used it is 4°F and with NE winds at 15 mph gusting to 25mph. I had no issues. Even did a couple of overnight tenting in days under 10 degrees and spent most of it outside the tent. No regrets buying this Parka. I would have given it 4 stars, but the material is catching on items when I carry them in my arms. The only thing that would make this Parka better (5 star) would be to re-inforce the material (thicker Nylon) between elbows and wrist.

This jacket is great quality. It is slightly oversized for layering and to loft the warm air around your body. The outer shell is durable. The hood is useful, and I like the built-in face protector with velcro closure. The down alternative insulation is far superior to the Mt Hardware sub zero down jacket. The sale price on this jacket is incredibly generous. This jacket will be a key piece in your layering system for Arctic conditions. When I completed a WEMT course in Alaska in December, I took gear from several major brands, my Beyond Clothing layering system outperformed them all. I am happy to add this piece to my layering system.
