Extreme cold environments are usually dry and sunny. Wind resistance and insulation are generally a higher priority than protection from rain. Depending on whether your activity is more static or active, high-loft layers like an L7 may be required.
This jacket is great quality. It is slightly oversized for layering and to loft the warm air around your body. The outer shell is durable. The hood is useful, and I like the built-in face protector with velcro closure. The down alternative insulation is far superior to the Mt Hardware sub zero down jacket. The sale price on this jacket is incredibly generous. This jacket will be a key piece in your layering system for Arctic conditions. When I completed a WEMT course in Alaska in December, I took gear from several major brands, my Beyond Clothing layering system outperformed them all. I am happy to add this piece to my layering system.
Since discovering Beyond Clothing, I've purchased many of their items and was never disappointed with any of my selections. The Geo-T crew L.S. shirt is no exception. Sizing as always is right on and looks good whether worn casually or out on an adventure..
I was very impressed by this. I got the coat as well. I have the L7 pants and the quality is great on both.
They are light, do not constrain movement. The fabric is elastic. There is a thin elastic insert in the groin area. The lining is made of pleasant fleece. Ventilation through the pockets works. In static in cold weather you feel that the pocket is open :). New, from the package they have a slightly pungent chemical smell, which then disappears.
Very comfortable pants. Great mix of outdoor functionality yet still could easily wear in a casual environment.
