Until recently, the highest quality clothing brand I've owned, besides my boots, has been Carhartt. Haven't been able to afford nicer until this year, which is rough since I'm a bit of a whore for quality gear. But I recently became a superintendent/QC Inspector in Yuma AZ (25 year Tucsonan) And as a result, I've been on a paycheck spanning mission to find the best lightweight, warmest/coolest, most durable work clothing I can justify buying...
And with this jacket, my previous idea of quality has been shattered. No off stitch. No loose threads. Insanely lightweight for how warm it is. Rain/wind proof but very breathable. The fit almost feels tailored and the material quality is bar none.
Id have never bought it if it wasn't on sale, I can justify $170 on a quality softshell/fleece, but I couldn't imagine spending $350. With that said, I believe it's well worth the original price for the craftsmanship, technology and care that goes into it.
15/10. Price, and ALL the quality that comes with it, reminds me that I'm still a peasent.
Just arrived so can only give first impressions. Appears to be very well made. Cut, fit and design are good. Sadly, jacket not as pictured on website. I was wanting it to use for situations where a ‘non-technical’ look would pass unnoticed but it has arrived with a black zipper and cuffs. Sure it will work well in the field tho.
I first used this jacket rucking Mauna Loa at 11,000 ft. it was 40 degrees. This jacket breathes incredibly well and dries very quickly. It is a welcome member of my kit.
The A5 is/was a great piece destined to become a classic icon of Beyond Clothing. Top materials and construction and best of all made in the US. Just wish there were a hoody version and pit zips were included. As these are on closeout we may never see those improvements.
This is what I have always hoped for in a three-seasons jacket. The cut and sizing are perfect. I expect the quality construction to provide years of hard service.
